Job Summary:
The Line Chef is responsible for preparing a variety of cooked dishes while maintaining high standards of service for customers and team members. Proficiency in handling multiple cooking stations, including Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and Egg Station, is essential. Effective communication with management and servers regarding ticket times, potential delays, and kitchen-related issues is critical. Additional responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, adhering to food safety protocols, and contributing to the overall efficiency of kitchen operations. This is a non-exempt position reporting to management.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, season, cook, taste, slice, and present a wide range of foods, including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts, following recipes and product standards
- Maintain consistency and quality through tasting dishes, adhering to menu guidelines, and accurately estimating ingredient quantities
- Document production activities and request essential materials and kitchen tools as needed
- Follow HACCP food safety and sanitation protocols to ensure a clean and hygienic workspace
- Operate kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, griddles, fryers, and ovens
- Measure, mix, rinse, peel, slice, and chop ingredients accurately during meal preparation
- Monitor inventory levels, organize items by expiration date, and rotate stock to maintain freshness and quality
- Lift and transport items up to 40 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods
- Maintain hygiene and safety standards, including regular hand immersion in water or cleaning solutions
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- Experience in food handling and strong knowledge of HACCP regulations
- Minimum of one year of relevant cooking experience, preferably in a fast-paced, casual dining environment
- Proficiency in diverse cooking techniques including soup preparation, sauteing, broiling, frying, and pantry management
- Ability to interpret, implement, and follow guidelines, processes, and menu instructions while maintaining effective communication with team members and customers
