Job Summary:
The Meal Prep Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of cooked meals while maintaining excellent service standards for customers and coworkers. Proficiency in handling multiple cooking stations, including frying, griddling, pantry, and egg preparation, is required. Effective communication with the manager and servers regarding ticket durations, potential delays, and other kitchen-related matters is expected. Additionally, the Cook must uphold hygiene standards, comply with food safety regulations, and contribute to the overall efficiency of kitchen operations. This is a non-exempt role reporting to management.
Essential Functions:
- Follow cooking recipes and product instructions to cook, season, bake, taste, cut, and present dishes including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts
- Maintain consistency and quality by testing dishes, adhering to standardized menus, and accurately estimating required food quantities
- Document production activities and request necessary kitchen supplies and equipment as needed
- Follow HACCP food safety and sanitation standards to maintain a clean and hygienic workspace
- Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, blenders, griddles, fryers, and ovens
- Accurately measure, blend, clean, peel, cut, and shred ingredients for meal preparation
- Monitor inventory levels, organize items by expiration date, and rotate stock to maintain freshness and quality
- Lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, and standing for extended periods
- Follow hygiene and safety practices, including hand immersion in water or cleaning solutions when required
Key Prerequisites and Competencies:
- Previous food preparation experience and a strong understanding of HACCP regulations
- Minimum of one year of comparable kitchen experience, preferably in a fast-paced, casual dining environment
- Knowledge of cooking techniques including soups, sauteing, broiling, frying, and pantry management
- Ability to interpret and implement directives, policies, and menu selections while communicating effectively with team members and customers
