Job Summary:

The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing a diverse selection of cooked dishes while maintaining high standards of service for customers and team members. Proficiency in managing multiple cooking stations, including frying, griddling, pantry work, and egg preparation, is essential. The Pastry Chef must communicate clearly and promptly with supervisors and servers regarding order statuses, potential delays, and other kitchen-related concerns. This role also requires maintaining a sanitary environment, following food safety protocols, and contributing to overall kitchen efficiency. This is a non-exempt position reporting to management.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow precise cooking instructions and product standards to prepare, season, taste, slice, and present dishes including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts
  • Maintain consistency and quality by sampling food items, adhering to standardized menu offerings, and accurately estimating food quantities
  • Keep detailed production records and obtain necessary culinary supplies and tools
  • Uphold HACCP food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring a clean and hygienic workspace at all times
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment such as cutting tools, blenders, griddles, deep fryers, and baking ovens
  • Measure, blend, clean, peel, slice, and grate ingredients properly during food preparation
  • Monitor stock levels, organize items by expiry dates, and rotate inventory to maintain freshness and quality
  • Lift and move items up to 40 pounds, with the ability to bend, twist, and stand for extended periods
  • Work safely in hot environments with sharp tools and heated dishes, including routine hand immersion in water or cleaning solutions to maintain hygiene

Key Prerequisites and Competencies:

  • Previous experience in food preparation and knowledge of HACCP standards
  • At least one year of related cooking experience, preferably in a fast-paced, casual dining environment
  • Familiarity with various cooking methods such as soups, sautéing, broiling, frying, and pantry management
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, rules, and menu selections while maintaining clear communication with team members and customers
