Job Summary of Department Manager:

As a Department Manager at IHOP, you will play a key role in overseeing the staff of the restaurant. Your main duties involve overseeing activities in both the front and back sections of the establishment, placing emphasis on boosting profits and increasing sales, all while upholding IHOP's high quality and service benchmarks.

Responsibilities of Department Manager:

  • Assist in the achievement of budgeted sales and profits.
  • Develop and maintain professional functional working relationships with IHOP employees and guests.
  • Implement Craft Training program for all restaurant hourly employees to improve unit operations and the guest experience.
  • Assist in the execution of annual financial, local restaurant marketing, guest service and human resource objectives, strategies and tactics for assigned unit, as defined by the current IHOP Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) and the current operations plan.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations which are applicable to assigned unit.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training and retention of employees as defined by the current SOP and operations plan for the assigned unit.
  • Ensure adequate levels of food, paper, kitchen, safety, janitorial, uniform, linen, and miscellaneous supplies.
  • Ensure the proper operational condition of equipment, building structure and premises according to federal regulations and the SOP.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation practices are maintained according to federal, state, and local regulations and the SOP.
  • Ensure security practices as defined by the SOP.
  • Assist in the completion of all required reports and paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities of Department Manager:

Supervise craft workers at a designated unit, overseeing the coordination, evaluation, and direction of the company's unit. Fulfill supervisory duties following the organization's guidelines and relevant regulations. Tasks involve conducting interviews, recruitment, and training of staff, as well as organizing work assignments, evaluating performance, providing incentives, enforcing discipline, handling complaints, and resolving issues.

Qualifications of Department Manager:

  • A high school diploma or a GED, along with two to four years of relevant experience and/or training, or a comparable blend of education and practical knowledge, is required.
  • Proficiency in English communication, both oral and written, as well as the capacity to comprehend materials like safety regulations, operational guidelines, and instructional handbooks.
  • Skill in composing regular reports and written communications.
  • Proficiency in delivering articulate presentations to audiences of patrons or staff within a dining establishment.
  • Proficiency in performing mathematical operations in various units of measurement, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Having the capacity to calculate proportions, ratios, and percentages and to create and analyze bar charts.
  • The capacity to use practical logic to execute directions presented in written, verbal, or visual formats.
  • Capability to address issues that entail multiple tangible factors in typical scenarios.
  • Having a legitimate Driver's License is a requirement for operating a vehicle for Company purposes.
  • Certification is obtained by completing specified IHOP training programs.

Physical Demands of Department Manager:

  • During the execution of this role, the staff member will frequently need to be in a standing, walking, or seated position.
  • The worker often needs to manipulate, touch, or sense objects, equipment, or controls with their hands; extend their hands and arms; bend, kneel, squat, or creep; communicate verbally, listen, and stay attentive to the environment; and have a sense of taste or smell.
  • The worker is required to frequently lift or transport objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally handle items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • This position necessitates individuals to have proficient close-range and long-range vision.

Work Environment of Department Manager:

  • As part of this job, the employee may encounter fumes or airborne particles on occasion.
  • The employee is regularly in close proximity to operational machinery and frequently comes into contact with harsh chemicals.
  • The worker may encounter wet or humid environments, extreme cold or hot temperatures, potential electrical hazards, and radiation exposure at times.
  • The level of noise in the workplace is generally considered to be moderate.
